Volunteer Feature: Mark and Richard
At CAER, volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their time, compassion, and dedication make it possible for us to serve our community with dignity, care, and hope every day.
We're excited to continue our
Volunteer Spotlight series, celebrating the incredible individuals who give their time and talents to support our mission. Each spotlight offers a chance to get to know the people behind the scenes whose generosity and commitment help make CAER a stronger community.
Our next featured volunteers are Mark Milless and Richard Eversman.
Mark began volunteering at CAER in 2019 after retiring. What started as one shift a week quickly grew into much more. These days, he's always ready to jump in—whether it's driving our vans for food pickups, dropping off recycling, or helping wherever he's needed. When he's not at CAER, Mark spends much of his free time babysitting his three great-grandchildren.
Richard joined the CAER volunteer team in 2020. His wife, Cindy, was already volunteering when she needed an extra set of hands one day, and the rest is history. Today, you'll find Richard picking up donations from food drives, taking our van in for oil changes, working at the checkout, or tackling whatever needs to be done. Outside of CAER, Richard is also deeply involved at St. Andrew's Church, where he has cared for the cemetery since 2020.
Mark and Richard have been friends for more than 30 years, and their friendship shines through in everything they do. Whether they're hauling heavy donations or sharing a laugh while getting the job done, they make even the busiest days more enjoyable.
When asked what they like most about volunteering, they both said they're happy to help with whatever needs to be done. They appreciate the chance to work alongside great people and admit they get especially excited when donuts make an appearance in the break room. As for the downside? According to Mark and Richard, "The pay isn’t great."
Whether they're enjoying coffee and donuts at the break table or tackling another task around CAER, Mark and Richard always bring smiles, laughter, and a willingness to help. Their positive attitudes and sense of humor brighten our days, and we're grateful for the energy, friendship, and dedication they bring to our team.
